2022 Land Rover Defender Gallery

If there's one thing the Defender purists were unhappy about when the new SUV arrived, it was the absence of the V8 engine. That's something Land Rover is addressing for the 2022 model year, with the inclusion of the 5.0-liter supercharged V8 as an option on both the Defender 90 and Defender 110. It makes for what the automaker is calling the most powerful production Defender to-date.

518 horsepower and 461 lb-ft of torque add up to 0-60 mph in 4.9 seconds for the 2022 Defender 90 V8. Top speed is 149 mph. AWD is standard, with a new Electronic Active Rear Differential, a new Dynamic drive mode, Continuously Variable Damping, and brake-based torque vectoring. Special exterior and interior styling will be included, too.

Along with the V8's arrival, there'll be two special editions. The 2022 Defender V8 Carpathian Edition will give a semi-matte finish to the SUV, along with some other exclusive exterior trim. The 2022 Defender XS Edition, meanwhile, will replace the Defender First Edition.
