2020 VW Atlas Cross Sport pricing confirmed: Two-row SUV undercuts Atlas

Volkswagen has confirmed pricing for the 2020 Atlas Cross Sport, its new five seat SUV that gives the Atlas a smaller sibling. Announced last year, the Atlas Cross Sport takes the platform of the Atlas but dresses it in a more appealing body, with a dashing roofline making for a more memorable profile.

Inside, the third row of seats in the regular Atlas is gone. Instead you get room for five across two rows, and still have 40.3 cubic feet of trunk space to play with. Drop the rear seats, meanwhile, and that expands to 77.8 cubic feet.

Overall the 2020 Atlas Cross Sport is almost three inches shorter and more than two inches lower than the Atlas. At the front, there's a new three-bar chrome grille and a body-spanning signature light that encompasses the VW logo. More sculpted lines feature on the hood, the sides, and the rear hatch.

The range kicks off with the 2020 Atlas Cross Sport S FWD at $30,545 (plus $1,020 destination), or $32,445 for the 4Motion version. It gets 18-inch alloy wheels, LED headlights and taillights with daytime running lights, and rain-sensing wipers. Inside there's cloth on the seats and VW's MIB II Composition Color infotainment system with a 6.5-inch touchscreen, two USB-C ports, app support, and Bluetooth. Driver assistance includes Front Assist and Blind Spot Monitor.

The SE trim starts at $33,945 for the FWD, and $35,845 for the SE 4Motion. It adds 18-inch machined wheels, keyless access, heated side mirrors, and a 10-way power driver's seat. There's also leatherette seating and heated front seats, along with dual-zone automatic climate control. The touchscreen grows to 8-inches, and there's SiriusXM, HD Radio, and voice control; the second row gets twin USB ports, and there's a power lift gate.

The SE with Technology trim is the first to offer the V6: you're looking at $35,945 for the four-cylinder FWD, and $37,345 for the optional V6, with 4Motion an extra $1,900 on each. It also gets 20-inch wheels, remote start, a 115V second row outlet, Easy Open power trunk, and both front/rear parking sensors and adaptive cruise control. For $1,400 there'll be an SE with Technology R-Line trim, that adds 20-inch five-spoke dark alloys, special black-accented bumpers, special badges, and stainless-steel pedal caps.

The 2020 Atlas Cross Sport SEL starts at $39,545 for the four-cylinder FWD, and $41,345 for the optional V6; $1,900 gets you 4Motion. The LED headlights have adaptive lighting, and there are heated washer nozzles, a heated steering wheel, Lane Assist, Light Assist, Traffic Jam Assist, and Dynamic Road Sign Display. Inside, there's driver seat memory, an 8-way power passenger seat, Volkswagen Digital Cockpit, a panoramic sunroof, and an upgraded infotainment system. The V6 gets the towing package, too.

As for the SEL R-Line, for $1,700 that adds 21-inch two-tone machined alloy wheels, black-accented R-line Bumpers, signature R-Line badging, and stainless-steel pedal caps.

Finally, there's the SEL Premium. That has 4Motion as standard, and will be $46,295 for the four-cylinder and $48,095 for the V6. It gets 20-inch machined wheels, power folding mirrors, leather seats with ventilation in the front and heating in the rear, rear sunshades, Park Assist, and a 360-degree camera. There's also the Fender Premium Audio system. An SEL Premium R-Line version adds 21-inch wheels and special trim for $1,700 more.
