Porsche has announced the return of the Macan Turbo for 2020. The SUV gets a new 2.9L Biturbo six-cylinder engine that offers 440 PS of power. That output is 10% higher than the past Macan Turbo engine with 20% less displacement.
Porsche says that with the optional Sport Chrono Package the Macan turbo can go from a stop to 100 km/h in 4.3 seconds. That is three-tenths of a second faster than the past model. The Macan Turbo also comes with a Porsche Surface Coated Brake system fitted.
Macan Turbo models are differentiated from normal Macans with a special front apron and a fixed roof spoiler. Inside the car gets 18-way sport seats and a Bose Surround sound system. Porsche notes that the new Macan Turbo 2.9L engine is used in the Cayenne and Panamera models.
The turbos are between the cylinder heads to make for more efficient combustion. The engine makes 40PS more power than the old 3.6L turbo and more torque. The new 2.9L engine is rated for 550 Nm of torque. Power goes to the wheels via a seven-speed PDK, and the Macan Turbo has Porsche Traction Management.
Porsche is offering ceramic brakes as an option. Standard wheels are 20-inch units. Other standard features include LED headlights including the Porsche Dynamic Light System. Turbo buyers also get body-color side mirrors and a sports exhaust system. The PCM system gets a 10.9-inch full HD touchscreen, and the Bose Surround Sound System has 14 loudspeakers.
Options include a smartphone cradle that charges Qi devices, a heated windscreen, an ionizer for air quality, and a traffic jam assistant. That system assists steering, braking, and acceleration in a traffic jam. The Macan Turbo is available to order now with pricing and delivery date a mystery.
