2019 Toyota Corolla Hatchback looking good at New York International Auto Show

Toyota has rolled out a very slick looking new 2019 Corolla Hatchback at the New York International Auto Show. Toyota promises that the car has an all-new, high-function, dynamic design. That won't mean much to most of us, but the hatchback Corolla looks very good for a budget car.

The base engine for the car is a TNGA 2.0L four paired with a 6-speed iMT manual transmission. That engine is smaller and lighter than the 1.8L four that it replaces. The engine is also quieter with less noise and vibration thanks to a more rigid crankcase with integrated stiffener, a lighter resin cylinder head, and a ribbed oil pan.

The horsepower and torque ratings for that engine are yet to be determined. The engine can also be paired with an all-new Dynamic-Shift CVT that has simulated 10-speed Shiftmatic steps, Sport Mode, and paddle shifters. Toyota is fitting the car with standard Entune 3.0 audio with an 8-inch Touchscreen, Wi-Fi Connect, Amazon Alexa integration, and Apple CarPlay.

Other features of the car include Bi-Beam LED headlamps short front and rear overhangs, and LED taillamps. There will be SE and XSE models with the XSE getting 18-inch wheels and LED fog lamps, chrome grille, and an Adaptive Front Lighting System. That allows the light to be focused in an area matching speed and steering angle.

Available colors for the Corolla Hatchback include Rival Blue, Blizzard Pearl, Silver Metallic, Midnight Black, Galactic Aqua Micra, Scarlet, and Oxide Bronze. Pricing and exact availability are unannounced, but the car launches this summer.
