2019 Hyundai Ioniq gains new infotainment and driver assist features

Hyundai has announced that the 2019 Ioniq line of cars is getting some cool new features that drivers will appreciate. The new features include additional active safety technology, enhanced voice recognition features, and standard remote charging management for plug-in vehicles in the line. Speaking of the Ioniq line, the Ioniq family includes a hybrid, plug-in hybrid, and pure EV.

The new safety and driver assistance tech integrated into the vehicle includes available driver attention alert and high beam assist. The later is cool because you don't have to remember to turn the headlights on and off of bright making it safer and more convenient for you and others on the road. The enhanced speech services include improved natural-language, server-based voice recognition and POI search of a database provided by HERE.

SEL models in the line also gain automatic emergency braking, lane keep assistant, and smart cruise control. The standard remote charging management for the plug-in and EV models are via Blue Link. The Plug-in Hybrid Ioniq has a Kappa 1.6L Atkinson-cycle four-cylinder engine and an estimated 109 lb-ft of torque.

That engine is mated to a six-speed dual-clutch transmission and a 60hp electric motor. Hyundai says that the plug-in hybrid has 119 MPGe in EV mode and 52 mpg in hybrid mode. The electricity is stored in an 8.9 kWh lithium-ion polymer battery. The Ioniq EV is good for 136 MPGe rating with a 28-kWh lithium-ion polymer battery and a 124-mile driving range. It uses a single speed reduction-gear transmission.

The normal Ioniq Hybrid Blue is rated for 58 mpg combined, Hyundai says that is the highest rating for any non-plug-in vehicle sold in the US. That hybrid has a 1.56 kWh battery pack.
