2019 BMW X2 M35i packs a 302hp 2.0L TwinPower punch

BMW has announced the details on the slick-looking 2019 X2 M35i. Production for this vehicle will kick off in November for the US market. BMW designed the ride to be "extroverted" and packed it with the most powerful BMW 2.0L TwinPower Turbo engine it has ever made. The engine makes 302hp and 332 lb-ft of torque.

That engine lies under an M Performance engine cover and is the very first M Performance 4-cylinder engine. To coax that much power out of the small displacement engine, BMW had to reinforce the crankshaft and use larger main bearings. It also gets pistons with 9.5:1 compression compared to the 10.2:1 compression on other versions of that engine.

BMW says that the X2 M35i can hit 60mph in 4.9-seconds from a standstill. BMW fits the M35i with M Sport suspension system that is tuned to match the performance of the car. An M Sport Differential for the front axle, another first, is fitted to help the ride retain traction. Brakes have been upgraded to stop the vehicle better.

That brake system has fixed front and floating rear calipers in Dark Blue M metallic paint. M Sports steering features a quicker ratio and gives direct and precise feel to the driver. M35i rides 10mm lower than other X2 vehicles. Two adaptive damper suspension settings are manually selectable.

Other M Performance elements include exterior bits in Cerium Grey and an aero kit based on the X2 M Sport Package. Full LED headlights and fog lights are fitted and 19-inch wheels, 20-inch wheels are optional. The seats are M Sport units with improved support and can be had with red leather and black accents or all black. Standard seats are sport units in black or oyster. Pricing is unannounced.
