2016 Youth Olympic Games Viewable In VR Glory
We have all heard of the Olympics before and know that the games come around every few years. What you might not know is that there are also Youth Olympic Games and for 2016, those games are being held in Lillehammer, Norway. These games might not be on TV and you might not get to travel to Norway to watch, but you can watch the games in a very cool and unique way.Samsung is supporting the International Olympic Committee to bring virtual reality coverage to the game. This means that most Galaxy smartphones and Gear VR users can watch the games with a new level of interaction. The VR experience kicks off at 19:00PM CET February 12 during the opening ceremony for the games.
This will be the first Olympic ceremony to be streamed live in virtual reality. During the games there will be daily VR sports highlights to give watchers insight in the Youth Olympic winter games. Galaxy phones that support the VR streaming include the S6 or higher. To access the games users with supported hardware can go to olympic.org and click the link for the Youth Olympic Games VR experience.
Samsung users can also download the NextVR app from the Oculus store to enjoy the Lillehammer 2016 content. Galaxy users who have never used NextVR will need to install the app before viewing the content. If this test goes over well during the youth games, I wonder if Samsung and the Olympic committee will offer VR content during the normal Olympic games. The next games are being held in Rio this summer. The next normal winter Olympic games will be held in Pyeongchang, China in 2018.
