2016 Malibu Is All-New And Gets 37mpg On The Highway
Chevrolet has redesigned the Malibu for 2016 making the car all-new and much better looking than in the past. The 2016 Malibu has an available hybrid powertrain that uses some of the tech pioneered with the Chevy Volt. Thanks to that Volt tech, the new Malibu is able to achieve a combined fuel economy rating of 45mpg.
The car is rated for 37mpg on the highway when fitted with the standard 1.5L turbo powertrain. The car is longer and lighter than its predecessor was and has more interior space. The wheelbase is four inches longer than the outgoing car and the vehicle is 300 pounds lighter.
Chevy fits the car with ten standard airbags for safety and the car can be fitted with forward collision alert, rear cross traffic alert, and automatic parking assist. A Teen Driver feature lets parents view the driving statistics of kids with speed alerts and more.
While the standard engine is a 1.5L Ecotec turbo with 160hp output and start stop tech, the optional engine is a 2.0L turbo producing an estimated 250hp and paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission. The hybrid version of the car uses a 1.8L four-cylinder with a two-motor drive unit that is slightly modified for the Volt producing 182hp total. The hybrid can go 55 mph on electricity alone. Pricing is unannounced at this time.
