15Gbps Over The Air
That's right; researchers have managed transfer speeds of 15Gbps through the air. Sadly, like all wireless technology the speed is dependent on proximity.
You, much like me, are probably asking why such fast speeds would be required at such close ranges. Some answers I found included home theater devices (TV, stereo receiver, optical disc player, etc.) and then there are the obvious devices, some of which already employ a PAN (personal area network) technology such as Bluetooth. Those devices being considered are cell phones, cameras, and all manner of portable PC's. Some ideas I came to on my own are of newer, better input devices for video games syncing multiple devices without wiring (laptop, desktop, and phone/PDA) and wireless support for devices and home/car audio/video setups.
