ZTE Axon 7 gets a minor update with major treats

It wasn't too long ago that ZTE finally updated its Axon 7 flagship to Android 7.0 Nougat. That was followed quickly by a 7.1.1. update, which was an unexpected but pleasant treat for owners, considering very few devices have been updated to that version. It seems that the flow of gifts hasn't ended yet and ZTE is rolling out another update. No it's not 7.1.2 and ZTE is billing it as a minor update. It has, however, some rather major features included.

The first of these features is "Night Mode", a rather controversial feature in Nougat. Controversial because it was supposed to arrive in Nougat but was left inaccessible to users. There have been third party ways to activate it, but now Axon 7 owners need not resort to such methods.

The second feature is also a big though curious one. It adds support for 256 GB microSD cards. This implies that the hardware has always been capable of supporting such capacities. Why ZTE didn't enable that from the get go is puzzling.

Last but definitely not least, ZTE is allowing users to disable "some stock apps", a.k.a. bloatware. Almost all OEMs ship with bloatware and many do not even let users disable them. It's encouraging to see ZTE going against the flow.

The update, which is simply being called "B25", is promised to rollout to US units with 48 hours. ZTE recommends removing the microSD card before updating to avoid interruptions. Considering it does touch microSD card functionality, that does seem to be sage advice.
