YouTube Red subscribers are getting free Chromecasts

If you've not signed up for YouTube Red, you're not alone. Despite YouTube's offer to let people pay for the option of not having ads, most people would rather watch ads than pay. Or probably more correctly, people will rather block ads for free, than pay to not see them. But Google wants to reward some of those people who have signed up for the service.

Users that have signed up for YouTube Red have been getting emails from the company, letting them know that they appreciate their subscription. And while a little "thank you" in the mail is nice, they're doing more than that. The emails are letting the users know that they can claim a free Chromecast, for being a loyal subscriber.

It appears that a lot of people are getting these emails, though it's hard to say if everyone is getting one. There doesn't seem to be any difference between users that have been around since the beginning, and those that only signed up recently, as people from both groups have gotten the email.

You can currently sign up for a three month trial for just $.99. We have no way of knowing whether or not you'll get one of the emails. I'd bet that you won't, but at $.99 it's not a huge risk. Maybe you'll get a free Chromecast out of it, or maybe you'll just spend a buck and not have to see YouTube ads for a few months.
