You can now 3D print custom gold jewelry

Sure, you can 3D print yourself a house, and in the future you may be able to 3D print yourself a replacement eyeball. Neither of those are likely to ever be something you need and/or want, but customized gold jewelry? It has existed for a large portion of human history, and it'll likely persist as a favorite many years into our future. The big difference, though, is that now you can 3D print it courtesy of Trove.

Trove launched for the public earlier this week, and offers a 3D printing service that concentrates on silver and gold jewelry. Users can select a pre-existing jewelry design from the company's website and order that, but there's also the option to customize a piece of jewelry and have it printed to order.

The customizations are made within Trove's online software (directly on the website). There are various metal options; aside from the aforementioned gold and silver, there's also bronze and such. Of course, it's not the jewelry itself that is being printed — rather, it is the molds needed to cast the pieces.

It may be a lengthier process than typical jewelry buying, though, as a plastic version of the custom jewelry piece will be mailed to the buyer — the buyer then must approve it or redesign. The plastic piece costs $6.49 USD, though the fee goes toward the final price if the prototype is approved. You can find out more about Trove's "try-on" models here.
