Even as it pushes its Galaxy S8 and S8+ flagships hard, Samsung knows too well that not everyone will want or can even afford one. It also knows that there is a subset of such consumers who care not for the chains for carrier contracts. In an attempt to cover all its bases, Samsung is making available its Galaxy J3 and J7, 2017 editions of course, in the US and will be making them available unlocked, making sure that even if you don't aim for the high-end, your next smartphone will at least still be a Galaxy.

Samsung has been aggressively pushing its Galaxy J series mostly in emerging markets as its premiere mid-range line. The Galaxy J7, in particular, has received countless permutations with ever possible suffix attached to it. For the US, it seems that Samsung's marketing is a bit simpler, and hopefully it remains that way.

The Galaxy J3 sits on the lower end of the mid-range spectrum, the least of its three brethren (four if you count the rare J1). Don't let that description frighten you off, though, as the Galaxy J3 2017 has enough muscle to get you through the day. With moderate use, of course.

Truth be told, the Galaxy J7 2017 isn't that huge a leap from the Galaxy J3. It definitely packs quite a punch, especially with its much larger battery. Some things, however, remain the same, like an HD display. and 16 GB of storage
