Twitch bug exposed some message archives to the wrong users

Twitch has sent out an alert notifying users of a bug that left some private messages exposed. The company says it has fixed the bug, but that "a small percentage" of messages were visible in the archives of other users, making them accessible to whomever happened to see them. The bug resulted from Twitch's recent removal of Messages.

The issue came to the surface after some Twitch users reported seeing messages belong to other users in their archive. Twitch has since sent out a message alerting it users of this bug, saying that it is the result of Messages' removal and the archive option users were given to save their old messages.

It's unclear how long the privacy issue was live, but users should no longer see messages stored in the wrong archive. "Please note," the message says, "this issue does not affect any Whisper communications." In addition, the email says, "You can find an archive with any of your private messages that were incorrectly delivered available for download at Twitch.tv/messages/archive."

A user's full message archive is available at Twitch.tv/messages, but users only have until November 1 to download them. Though the scope of the bug is claimed to be small, many Twitch streamers are understandably upset about the privacy violation, pointing out that these messages may contain private information.
