Steam Creator Homepages give developers a gaming storefront

With an ever-increasing number of games offered through Steam, Valve can sometimes have a tricky time with discovery. Highlighting new and updated games on Steam's homepage or encouraging players to look at their discovery queues are a couple of ways Valve has tried to get games in front of people who might be interested in playing them, but the company can always do more. This week, we're seeing Valve launch a new feature it calls Creator Homepages, which could help further fuel discovery.

This new initiative was announced in a post on the Steam Blog. Essentially, Creator Homepages are a way for developers and publishers to highlight their catalogs, allowing players to see all of the games they've released. If you really like a game released by a certain developer, the logic is that you might like the other titles that studio has to offer, and these Creator Homepages are designed to introduce you to those other games.

Just like you can with Steam Curators, you can choose to follow individual Creator pages as well, which in turn notifies you when that developer or publisher releases a new game or makes an announcement. Creators have some degree of customization when it comes to the layout of their pages, as they can publish collections that highlight titles that might be in the same franchise or play similarly to one another.

Of course, you'll also see Steam's standard top sellers, new releases, and discount lists for each Creator, letting you know which games are most popular among your fellow players. In short, these creator pages should serve as a good way to keep tabs on your favorite developers, or to find new games if you're looking for something to play.

This new functionality is launching in beta, so expect to encounter a few bugs if you go browsing through Creator Homepages. Valve says it has more features it would like to add as time goes on, but for now, it wanted to get the core functionality out there so developers and players can begin using it. You can read more about these pages – and see a list of the ones that already exist – on the Creator Homepages announcement page over on Steam.
