Star Wars Battlefront Death Star DLC gets release date and first gameplay trailer
We're closing in on the launch of Star Wars: Battlefront's new Death Star DLC, but up until now, we haven't seen any gameplay footage from it. Electronic Arts and DICE have decided to let us in on a little peek ahead of launch, and this looks like it might be worth the price of admission. Not only are we getting new hero characters Bossk and Chewbacca, but the trailer confirms that the Death Star trench run will feature in the DLC, something many of the Star Wars faithful will likely get excited about.
The trailer shows off brief gameplay glimpses of the DLC's new Battle Station game mode. Battle Station is split into three distinct parts. In the first, Rebel players will carry out an assault on an Imperial Star Destroyer, while Imperial players are tasked with fighting them back, getting some help from AI controlled ships along the way.
Once the first phase of Battle Station is complete, the fight moves inside the Death Star, as Rebel players will have to find and extract a droid critical to their operations. Imperial players are once again given the directive to stop them, and it's here that the DLC's new hero characters – Chewbacca for the Rebels and the bounty hunter Bossk for the Imperials – become available to play.
Finally, it comes time to destroy the Death Star itself, with both sides participating in the iconic Death Star trench run from Episode IV. We'll have to see if the inclusion of that famous battle is enough to reignite interest in the game, as one of the major complaints about Battlefront at launch was that it didn't have enough content and got repetitive quickly as a result. Adding something like the Death Star trench run might be enough to bring some older players back.
Star Wars Battlefront: Death Star will launch tomorrow, September 20, for all Season Pass holders. If you're looking to pick up the DLC on its own without plopping down $50 for the expensive Season Pass, you'll have to wait two weeks for launch and your price becomes $15.
