Siri may get improved voice synthesis in iOS 8.3

With the incoming Apple Watch, Siri will play a big role. She's not done a whole lot recently, either, aside from listening attentively when plugged in with her new 'Hey Siri' feature. As we wait for April to roll around so we can check out the Apple Watch, we've also got some iOS updates to juggle. The beta version of iOS 8.2 mentions the Apple Watch, but Apple has seeded iOS 8.3 as well — and it looks like Siri is getting some attention.

Apple routinely makes improvements to Siri's voice synthesis, attempting to make her sound more natural and approachable. With iOS 8.3, we might see a significant improvement on that front.

In the short video below, you'll see Siri doing a quick before and after, saying 'potato' and 'America' after being asked to define what a potato is. The first take is a little choppy, and probably what you're used to with Siri.

The second take is much more fluid, and sees Siri ditching the short, sputtery pauses while she sounds it all out.

This update is slated for iOS 8.3, which may come after the Apple Watch lands. If so, Siri as we know her will make an appearance on your wrist, but could improve shortly thereafter. Either way, more natural speech is welcome — we just wish we knew when we'd get that iOS 8.3 update.
