Red Dead Redemption 2 heads to Steam next week

Earlier this month, Red Dead Redemption 2 finally landed on PC. However, like a number of PC games these days, Red Dead Redemption 2 didn't launch on all digital stores at once. It first launched on the newly-released Rockstar Games Launcher, the Epic Games Store, and a few other platforms like the Humble Store and Green Man Gaming.

Most PC gamers noticed immediately that Steam, the biggest PC distribution platform around, was missing from that list. Many of the Steam faithful are used to this by now, as a number of publishers are opting to launch their games on competing stores (namely the Epic Games Store) with a period of exclusivity before bringing those games to Steam. For Red Dead Redemption 2, the plan was no different, with Rockstar saying that the game would launch on Steam at some point in December.

Today, the company finally gave us a release date for Red Dead Redemption 2 on Steam. In a post to Twitter, Rockstar confirmed that the game will be landing on Steam on December 5th, one month to the day after it launched on PC in general. As far as these exclusivity periods go, one month isn't too bad – not when other publishers are opting to keep their games off Steam for six months or a year in some cases.

Of course, even when the game does launch on Steam, it still might not be a bad idea to hold off on picking it up for a little while. Red Dead Redemption 2 has been notable for the number of issues players have experienced on PC, and while Rockstar has made some progress quashing bugs, a quick look around various forums suggests there's still work to be done.

In any case, if bugs aren't enough to deter you from wanting to pick up Red Dead Redemption 2, you can find it already listed over on Steam. We'll see how the game performs when it arrives on the most popular PC store, but we're guessing it will immediately be one of Steam's top-sellers.
