Producer Lauren Shuler Donner wants Channing Tatum to play Gambit in standalone film

I've never been a fan of comic books, but I am a big fan of superhero films. I particularly like the X-Men franchise. There have been a bunch of films in the franchise so far, and more are coming. X-Men: Days of Future Past is hitting theaters in a few months. Another X-Men film is coming in 2016 as well.

One of the X-Men producers is a woman named Lauren Shuler Donner and she wants to make a standalone Gambit film. The last time we saw Gambit in an X-Men flick was when he was fighting with Wolverine in X-Men Origins: Wolverine.

In that film, Gambit was played by Taylor Kitch. Donner wants to make a standalone films with Channing Tatum as the lead. Apparently, Donner is on board and Tatum is as well. The whole deal seems to have started when Tatum was doing the press tour for White House Down.

He mentioned that he would like to play Gambit. Apparently, Tatum is from New Orleans, which is where Gambit is from, and can do a Cajun accent. Donner says with Tatum on board she only needs to convince the studio. She also noted the movie would be a smaller scale film.
