Photobucket Launches Snapbucket Mobile Photo Sharing App
The popular Instagram photo sharing app may now have some competition. The established Photobucket online photo sharing service has finally made its move to mobile with the launch today of its Snapbucket Android app with an iOS version due to come out soon. Much like Instagram, Snapbucket will also feature a variety of filters that enhance your photos before you share them.
However, Photobucket has been around longer than Instagram, first duking it out with Flickr back in the day. It has a large online user base with a million new users and over 20 million new photos and videos added monthly. The launching of the Snapbucket mobile app will benefit current users with new functionality and encourage new users towards their online service, having both as a comprehensive photo and video storing and sharing system.
"We are seeing explosive growth in mobile and at the same time we are adding a million new users a month on our web site," Photobucket CEO Tom Munro said in a statement. "With our integrated platform, Photobucket is uniquely positioned to bring together the simplicity and spontaneity of mobile and the creativity and permanence of the Web."
They also further differentiate themselves from Instagram on their mobile app by promising users that new filters can be unlocked the more they use the app. Adding this gaming or reward aspect will certainly encourage more usage. But we shouldn't discount Instagram yet, because many similar apps have come before them without such success and likely many more will come after also failing to see the same success. What made Instagram a hit is supposedly the simplicity and focus of the app as well as the speed and efficiency. If Snapbucket ends up being too bloated with features and a pain to use, it may not end up doing too much damage to the beloved Instagram.
