The 17.5" tall and 8.5" wide SCS4 is a versatile, two-way, bookshelf-sized speaker system uniquely suited for outstanding front, rear, or center channel use regardless of listener position or speaker location. The SCS4's high output capability and very high 90dB efficiency perfectly meet the demands of today's home theater systems, and its innovative, advanced driver design, based on product designer Jim Thiel's 30 year-experience, provides extremely realistic sonic reproduction.

"The SCS4's high efficiency, magnetic shielding, narrow shape, and very accurate reproduction make it perfect for use as a high performance center or rear channel speaker in home theater and multi-channel systems, " says company president Kathy Gornik. "However, the SCS4 is a remarkable all-purpose, full-range speaker as comfortable in demanding music systems as it is reproducing movie soundtracks. And we are able to offer it at a much more affordable price than previous THIEL models."

Innovative, very low distortion, coaxially mounted drivers

The SCS4 uses a very low distortion, high output, metal diaphragm 6.5-inch woofer that is coaxially mounted with a 1-inch, high output metal dome tweeter, the same high performance tweeter that is used in THIEL's flagship model, CS7.2. The THIEL-designed woofer's short coil/long gap, copper stabilized motor system greatly reduces distortion, and the woofer's' powerful, neodymium magnet improves efficiency and increases output capability to meet the needs of today's home theater systems. The woofer's reinforced metal diaphragm is specially shaped to act as a waveguide for the tweeter's energy. The shape reduces diffraction, a common problem with other coaxial designs.

Time and phase coherent design

As with all THIEL loudspeakers, the SCS4 utilizes a phase correct crossover system to eliminate phase distortion. The coaxial midrange/tweeter mounting provides perfect time coherence regardless of listener position or whether the cabinet is oriented vertically or horizontally. "The SCS4's time and phase coherence and coaxially mounted, low distortion drivers provide a very high level of clarity and realism for all types of sound reproduction," says product designer Jim Thiel.

The SCS4's cabinet's dimensions are 17.5" inches in height, 8.5" wide, and 11.25" deep, and will be available in Natural Cherry, Dark Cherry, and Black Ash finishes.
