Panasonic updates their entry line of digital P&S camera this week with the announcement of DMC-LS80. The new 8.1 megapixels camera features a 1/2.5" CCD sensor, Venus Engine III, 3x optical zoom lens with digital zoom capability up to 12x combines using 4x digital zoom or max up to 19.2x using the Extended Optical zoom function. The Leica lens has a zoom range of 33-100mm (35mm Equiv) with dual modes optical image stabilization.

The LS80 supports video capture in 4:3 or 16:9 aspect ratio with resolution up to 848x48 in 30fps, while 3:2 aspect ratio is available only in still image mode. The most significant upgrade is probably the addition of 10 frames per second burst shooting mode using lower resolution in High-speed Burst Mode. The camera runs on AA battery, available in Silver, black or pink color. Panasonic has not disclosed the price and availability at this point but Amazon has a preorder price of $149 coming this March. We'll find out more at PMA 2008.
