Neo Smartpen N2 mirrors writing into smartphones and tablets

We have talked about smartpens before, such as the Livescribe 3, these devices are able to write on paper and have what you write recorded on mobile devices or a computer. A new smartpen has turned up called the Neo smartpen N2 and like most smartpens, it does require special notebooks for the pen to be able to recognize your writing. The developers of the notebooks promise that they are the same price as regular notebooks.

The N2 is as thin as a normal pen measuring 6.16" long x 0.46" around and weighing in at less than an ounce. One of the big features of the N2 is that there is no preparation needed to start writing with the pen, all the user has to do is write, and all preparations are taken care of automatically.

No receiver is required, no switches to get the pen ready to write and mirror to the apps or PC, and no need to have a smart device nearby. The smartpen has enough storage inside for up to 1000 pages and notes are archived by date, location, and page.

Content written with the pen can be synced to Evernote or shared via email. Voice recordings can be made with the pen and synced with the notes. That means you can record a lecture or meeting as you take notes. Handwritten notes are transcribed into digital text with the MyScript engine. Drawings can also be recorded and saved with the pen. The A5 spring bound notebook sells for about $8 for five of them. The basic N2 package with one notebook and the pen is about $99 plus $17 AUD to ship outside Australia. Shipping is expected to begin this month. The N2 is on Kickstarter, was seeking $20,000 AUD, and raised over $359,000 AUD.
