Mysterious new Pokemon trailer hints at strange things

It would seem that something big is being planned in the world of Pokemon. Earlier today, a mysterious new trailer appeared on Pokemon's Japanese Youtube channel. This new trailer is clearly teasing something, and it's doing so in a very creepy – almost unsettling – way.

The trailer features footage from many different Pokemon games. These titles include HeartGold and SoulSilver, Diamond and Pearl, Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire, and finally, Sun and Moon. Most of the footage revolves around legendary Pokemon from those games – for instance, we get to see appearances from Pokemon like Celebi, Deoxys, Palkia, and the Ultra Beasts from Sun and Moon.

Japanese text breaks up the footage, and though the messages are rather cryptic on their own, they may paint a clearer picture when considered as a whole. The folks over at Polygon have translated the text, and it seems to suggest that the world of Pokemon is under attack by one or multiple otherworldly entities. The final shot of the video spells out "Is something happening?" using the Pokemon Unown as the letters, leading us to believe that whatever this is, it has some connection to the ancient Pokemon world.

Alongside this new trailer, a new page on Pokemon.jp has appeared. The website shows two images – one with a pair of men pointing at a group of Elgyem, a psychic Pokemon, as a Magnezone floats in the sky, and another that features the Ultra Beasts from Sun and Moon. The website also offers a date: July 19, 2017, which certainly sounds like the date that we'll learn what this is all about.

In the meantime, though, we can certainly take a guess or two. With UltraSun and UltraMoon on the horizon, this could be teasing a new legendary Pokemon that will feature in those games. Considering the focus on Sun and Moon's Ultra Beasts, it's also possible that we're heading toward the reveal of more of them for UltraSun and UltraMoon.

Whatever it is, this is certainly an effective bit of advertising from Game Freak and The Pokemon Company. We'll find out what this is teasing next week, but for now, head down to the comments section and give us your theories!
