Moto Z2 Force Said To Also Have Jelly Scrolling Effect
As expected from a OnePlus flagship, the OnePlus 5 was surrounded by complaints almost immediately after its release, though not enough to knock the latest flagship killer off the top of the list. One of the biggest complaints, and one that the company insists is "all natural", is the jelly scrolling effect blamed on the upside down orientation of the OnePlus 5's display. Fortunately for the OnePlus 5, it might not be alone. Or rather, it might have not been the first at all. XDA Daniel Marchena reports that the latest Moto Z2 Force also exhibits this behavior and that it, too, might not be unique in that regard.
The jelly scrolling effect, where content, especially text, seems to clump together before moving to their correct position when scrolling, was first observed en masse on the OnePlus 5. By now, the widely accepted theory is that this is due to the screen's orientation, which is upside down compared to almost all other smartphones. This messes up the natural refresh direction of the screen, causing the jelly effect.
The Moto Z2 Force might also be part of that very small group. While still waiting for a teardown to confirm it, Motorola's latest shatterproof smartphone seems to also exhibit the same scrolling behavior. Marchena immediately noticed this and tried to record it using an HTC U11.
For reference, he recording a Galaxy S8+, again using the U11, to show that it doesn't have the unnatural scrolling.
If the Moto Z2 Force does turn out to have an upside down display panel as well, it might not actually be the first of its kind. The first gen Moto Z Force apparently also had the display upside down, in which case its owners might have been living with the Jelly Scrolling effect all this time without knowing it.
