Mighty No. 9 gets Mighty Delay No. 3

If you've been looking for another game with the same sort of feel as Mega Man, then you'd probably be happy to hear about Mighty No. 9. The "spiritual successor" to Mega Man raised over $4 million on Kickstarter back in 2013, and had some lofty goals. Unfortunately you'd also be disappointed to hear that the game is being delayed for the third time.

After pulling in more than four times the amount they sought on Kickstarter, the team set the release date for the game at April, 2015. As you've guessed, the game did not meet that deadline. It was later delayed to September of last year, and then eventually to February 9th, 2016. The company went so far as to promise that no further delays would be coming.

So why did the developer push things back this time? Turns out that the issue lies mostly with online matchmaking. Check out the update straight from the developer:

The reason for the delay is rooted in bugs inside the network modes, and specifically problems with matchmaking. There are two large reasons for this problem, one of them being the large number of platforms supported (the solution for each platform is slightly different) and the other stems from the fact that the engine we are using is no longer being updated which means adjustments for matchmaking and online code are being made manually (actually reprogramming parts of the engine by the dev team themselves). Unfortunately, this is all a result of miscalculations on the part of us, the development staff.

As I always say when a game gets delayed, I'm disappointed to hear it, but I'm glad that they didn't release an unfinished/unpolished product. Hopefully they'll learn some lessons from this, and work on more realistic timetables in the future. The current release date is now "Spring 2016."
