LG V30 makes an unofficial appearance days before debut

Samsung fans have had their fun. In just a few days, it will be the LG faithful's turn. LG has made it pretty easy to know what to expect but, naturally, it hasn't revealed anything about the smartphone's final look. Of course, we've had plenty of leaks about that and this latest one more or less confirms them. Though we only get to see it from one angle, this seemingly functional LG V30 pretty much matches what we've come to expect from LG's second try this year.

Very little has changed from the LG G6 to the LG V30, which is as expected. We don't have anything to scale it with but the V30 is already more or less confirmed, by LG no less, to be larger than the LG G6. There are, however, a few subtle differences between the two, most of them concentrated on the edges of the phone.

The LG G6 shown above is best described to be flat. The screen is flat and the edges themselves are almost completely flat. In contrast, the V30 shown below has what was once called a "2.5D Arc" screen, where the glass curves a little at the edges. But, no, LG hasn't adopted a completely curved edge screen. The sides of the phone seems to also be a bit more rounded than before, though it could also just be a lighting effect.

This subtle design change was already implied in one of LG's own teasers, citing ergonomics that favored soft curves over sharp, hard edges. It's still unwilling to go full Monty into curved edge territory, which is probably for the best. Not everyone buys Samsung curves.

The other things that LG has already revealed include its first ever Plastic OLED (P-OLED) 18:9 smartphone display, a new UX 6.0+ that ditches the second screen for a floating bar, and, just recently, a new 32-bit Advanced Hi-Fi Quad DAC for music lovers. LG is planning to unveil the LG V30 on 31st August, the day before the IFA 2017 madness descends.
