Legacy of the Void will put a close to StarCraft II Nov. 2

All stories must eventually come to an end. This particularly one was 17 years in the making, or so Blizzard recounts. StarCraft II will be getting its third and final expansion that will finally put a close to the ongoing saga of the world's most famous RTS game. In the Legacy of the Void, players will be the ones that guide the Protoss, through the legendary Artanis and Zeratul, and will determine as well the fate of the universe. And it will all begin on November 10.

Since the first first StarCraft game in 1998, players have been following the stories of the Terran, Zerg, and Protoss races and their heroes and villains. After nearly two decades, it is time to lay legends to rest. While Legend of the Void will also see the fates of Terran Jim Raynor and Zerg queen Kerrigan bring to a close, the game all revolves around the Protoss this time, with players piloting the all powerful arkship, Spear of Adun. And while all of these can be enjoyed in the game's single player mode, StarCraft II's last hurrah might shine in its multiplayer gameplays.

Yes, plural, as Legacy of the Void adds some new twists to playing StarCraft II with a friend or rival. In Archon Mode, a pair of players will take control of the same base and units, working both separately in their own specializations but also together to defeat a similar duo on the other side of the map. Co-op missions also strengthen the bond between friends and comrades as commanders of allied forces, fighting together to reach a set objective.

And then, of course, there's the augmented online multiplayer experience that has become one of the key features of StarCraft II. From new units for each of the three races, to automated tournaments, Legacy of the Void will be setting the ground for continuing StarCraft II's legacy long after the story has ended.

Like the previous two expansions, StarCraft II: Legacy of the Void is a standalone purchase that doesn't require purchasing either Wings of Liberty or Heart of the Swarm. The game is now available for pre-purchase for $39.99, or $59.99 for the Digital Deluxe Edition. The game officially launches on November 10.
