Lamborghini Aventador and Tesla Model S P85D line up for a drag race

When you think about Telsa, what most of us envision are cars that have batteries and produce no emissions while using no gas. We really don't typically think of performance. However, the Tesla Model S P85D is a very impressive performer in its own right with the equivalent of 691hp from its electric motors.

The P85D isn't exactly a lightweight at 4936 pounds, but all that power and instant torque add up to a 0-60mph time of 3.2 seconds. The Lamborghini Aventador is an undeniable supercar designed for performance, and it stacks up surprisingly well against the Tesla P85D. The Lambo has 691hp, but weighs a lot less at 4085 pounds.

Lamborghini says that the Aventador will hit 60mph in 2.9 seconds. On paper, it seems that the Lambo would simply walk away from the Tesla, even at launch. Surprisingly the Tesla gets the jump on the Lambo, but that jump is short lived.

The Tesla proves no match for the Lambo after the launch and the Lamborghini smokes the electric car. Check out the YouTube video of the drag race and see for yourself. I'm thinking the Lamborghini driver was at fault for a poor launch letting the Tesla get the jump on him at all.
