Just a Line AR doodle app arrives for iOS with cross-platform support

Earlier this year, Google launched an augmented reality app for Android called "Just a Line." The app enables users to draw virtual doodles in the air using just their smartphone, a fun AR experiment free for anyone to download. The company expanded upon that experiment today, launching Just a Line for iOS that brings the same ability to iPhone. That makes Google's experimental app the first cross-platform AR doodling app of its kind.

As demonstrated in the video below, Just a Line is very easy to use: the user simply launches the app, holds their phone, and starts moving it. The app draws lines in the air, ones that are only visible on the phone's display when the camera is pointed at them. Others running the app around the user can also see the lines.

It's a fun way to create doodles, but it can also be used for simple line games, as Google shows with tic-tac-toe. Until now, you had to use an Android phone to play with Just a Line, but the company has finally launched an iOS version of the app; it also offers cross-platform support so users can play with Android owners.

Google still calls this an experiment, and it's still free for anyone to download. In addition to the new support, Google has added another feature: the ability to draw with a friend. According to the company, that feature makes Just a Line the first ever AR app that lets two people create a single image in AR using Android and iOS.

How do you use it? Put the two phones together, then tap the partner icon. This will connect the phones together, after which point each person will see what the other is creating. Just a Line is available for Android from Google Play and for iPhone from iTunes.
