Instant Video To Go makes video encoding a breeze

Everyone knows that hardware encoding will always be faster than software encoding. The guys over at Everything USB got their hands on the new Instant Video To Go H.264 Encoder from ADS and I thought I'd share their findings with you.

First, don't be fooled by the dongle, it actually looks nothing like I would expect a dongle to look. It actually looks more like a USB flash drive. It comes with the ArcSoft Media Converter 2 to handle the decoding.

They tested out the performance boost of using the Instant Video To Go by testing systems both with, and without the unit. The first was a Celeron 2.2Ghz which took nearly 4 hours to transcode a 30-minute MPEG-2. When using the Instant Video To Go it took only 36 minutes. That's just incredible. They also ran this test with a Core Duo 1.8Ghz, the Instant Video To Go didn't improve the speed considerably, but managed to only take 25 minutes rather than 30 without.

Be sure to check out the full review over at EverythingUSB.

Thanks Ian!
