Hyundai reveals 45 EV Concept at IAA 2019

Hyundai has unveiled its latest EV concept car at IAA 2019 in Germany. The car is called the 45 EV concept, and Hyundai says that the concept foreshadows a "new era" of automotive design at the automaker. The new era of design will focus on electrification, autonomous technology, and intelligent design.Hyundai says that the 45 puts a twist on a 45-year-old icon called the Hyundai Pony Coupe concept from 1974. The 45 concept has a monocoque-style body that is aerodynamic and light-weight. The name of the concept also comes from the 45-degree angles at the front and rear of the car that forms a diamond-shaped silhouette.

Hyundai says that diamond shape foreshadows the future design of its EV models. The tech that may be seen in future models includes the Camera Monitor System (CMS) that are hidden and could be used in self-driving systems of the future. The interior of the cabin has wood, fabric, and leather finishes and takes inspiration from the furniture.

The 45 concept is a fully electric vehicle with the battery and motors positioned below the passenger compartment. The interior is designed to be a comfortable and communal place with lounge chair-style rear seats and front seats that can rotate to face passengers. The infotainment system uses a projection-beam interface.

Hyundai says that the clean lines, ergonomic placement of controls, and a high-end electronics feel for the interior fixtures enhance the feeling of space inside the concept. The door storage in the vehicle support storage of books, tablets, and notebooks. There is no indication of if Hyundai plans to build the car for production, it's most likely the design hints at what future Hyundais will look like.
