Harry Potter: Wizards Unite trailer teases as Niantic talks release

It's been a little more than a year since Harry Potter: Wizards Unite was first revealed. In that year, we haven't really heard much at all, as Niantic has been mostly silent on the game. Today, that all changed, with Niantic giving us a new teaser trailer for Wizards Unite and giving us a better idea of when it'll arrive.

Of course, Niantic is only giving us a very vague idea of when Wizards Unite will release. The company, along with Portkey Games, announced today that Wizards Unite will launch in 2019. That's all we got, but even a release window that covers an entire year is better than nothing at all.

The teaser trailer that was published today is similarly light on details. All it shows is a wizard using apparition to appear in an alley to capture a stray Golden Snitch before conjuring a poster on a nearby wall and vanishing just as quickly as she arrived. The poster says "The Wizarding World is at risk of exposure – We need your help," with the Wizards Unite logo underneath it.

A quick look at the official Wizards Unite website tells us more about that call to arms. "Please resist the urge to panic," a bit of flavor text reads. "Traces of magic are appearing across the Muggle world without warning and in a rather chaotic manner. We worry it is only a matter of time before even the most incurious Muggles catch wind of it. We call on all witches and wizards to help contain the Calamity or risk the worst of times since You Know Who. Brush up on your spells, get your wand ready, and enlist immediately."

So, it seems that players of this augmented reality game will be working together to prevent Muggles from discovering the hidden world of Wizardry. Hopefully we'll be finding out more soon, but for now, you can head to the Wizards Unite website linked above to sign up for the game's mailing list. We'll keep our eyes peeled for more, so stay tuned.
