2017 Hyundai Ioniq Electric and Hybrid First Drive Gallery

The 2017 Hyundai Ioniq Electric and Hyundai Ioniq Hybrid are the first two members of the Korean brand's new green initiative. They each use the same compact hatchback platform and styling, and will be joined by a plug-in hybrid model later in 2017.

The Ioniq Electric is motivated by an EV drivetrain that produces 118 horsepower and 215 lb-ft of torque, and its 28-kWh lithium-ion battery pack provides 124 miles of driving range on a single charge. The Ioniq Hybrid delivers 139 total horsepower (and 195 lb-ft of torque) through its combination of a 1.6-liter four-cylinder gas engine and a single electric motor. Fuel mileage for the Hybrid is rated at 58-mpg combined.

The Ioniq Hybrid is intended to compete against the reigning Toyota Prius in the compact hybrid segment, while the Ioniq Electric targets rivals such as the Nissan Leaf and the Ford Focus Electric.
