Fortnite's next item is the Rift-To-Go

Fortnite's Rifts are undoubtedly one of the coolest additions made to the game in season 5, as they allow for an extra degree of mobility around the map along with the potential to escape losing fights. Even though we can probably expect Rifts to disappear from the in-game map once season 5 wraps up in a few weeks (just as Hop Rocks did at the end of season 4), it appears that they'll hang around in item form.

A pop-up that appears when you boot up Fortnite recently began teasing a new item called the Rift-To-Go. "A rift you carry in your pocket!" the item's description says. "Teleport above your current location and glide down."

It's likely that the Rift-To-Go will be included in this week's patch, which drops tomorrow. Advertising new items in-game a few days before they go live is par for the course for Epic, and it's rare to see the company teasing items that are still a long way out from release.

Taking Rifts and condensing them down into one-time use items that you find in loot drops is an interesting idea. Obviously, the notion that the Rift-To-Go would be one-time use is merely an assumption, as Epic hasn't described how it functions yet. We'll just have to wait until the patch notes go live tomorrow morning to learn about the capabilities of the Rift-To-Go. At the very least, it'll be interesting to see the effects of an item that allows players to quickly escape a confrontation and can be used anywhere.

All will be revealed in the early-morning hours tomorrow, so sit tight until then. In the meantime, head down to the comments section and let us know what you think – is turning Rifts into a lootable item a good idea?
