Fortnite patch notes introduce Mounted Turret, Food Fight LTM

Fortnite's latest patch has arrived, and just as Epic's teases foretold, it comes bearing new weaponry. The Mounted Turret that has been teased in-game all week is now live, so we've got some specific details on that. Along with the Mounted Turret comes a new LTM called Food Fight, and it sounds like it could be a lot of fun.

First, let's check out the details for the Mounted Turret. This is actually classified as a legendary trap item, so they'll be among the rarest items in the game. As we expected, this is a stationary weapon, and it can only be placed on floors. It also needs to be operated by a player, but once you place it, anyone can use it – not just people on your team. The Mounted Turret has unlimited ammo, but to balance that, it'll overheat if it's fired for too long.

While the Mounted Turret probably isn't going to be good for all types of encounters, it sounds like it'll be perfect for seiging enemy fortifications. If you're in a build fight with another player, you can quickly drop one of these down and shred through your opponent's structures.

Next up, we've got the Food Fight LTM, which sounds like one of the most creative game modes we've seen so far. Food Fight pits two teams against one another and tasks them with protecting a giant mascot head inside of a restaurant. A barrier will run down the center of the map for the first few minutes of the game, giving your team a chance to gear up and build fortifications around your restaurant.

To help with that, resource gathering rates have been increased in this mode, and special red supply drops will spawn at the start of the match to help get your team equipped. Death isn't the end either, as all players respawn seven seconds after dying. You'll even have some – not all – of your ammo and materials left when you do respawn, so you can get back in the fight quickly.

That's it for this update's new additions, but there are actually quite a few miscellaneous changes as well. The biggest of these is probably the fact that Glider re-deploy has been disabled in all default game modes. While it'll still be present in large-scale team modes and Playground, it sounds like Epic wants to look at Glider re-deploy from a balance standpoint for a while.

Other small changes include a decrease to the spawn rate of Quadcrashers, a slight increase to the amount of time the Down But Not Out state lasts before actually dying, and a buff to pickaxe damage.
