Fortnite gets 'Never Gonna' emote for Rickrolling friends

Epic has added a classic meme to its Item Shop with the addition of the new 'Never Gonna' emote in Fortnite. The company introduced the new emote by Rickrolling its customers; it tweeted a YouTube video called 'Watch How This Bear Made The Unlikeliest Of Friends' with a thumbnail showing an actual bear. Clicking the video, however, played Fishstick dancing to the 'Never Gonna' emote.

Rickrolling is one of the Internet's oldest memes, something that predates some of the kids playing Fortnite. The meme simply involves making someone think they're about to hear or see one thing, only to instead play the song Never Gonna Give You Up by Risk Astley from 1987. People have been Rickrolling each other for more than a decade.

The Fortnite emote includes the most iconic moment in Astley's dance combined with the song's recognizable track. The emote is available to purchase through the game's Item Shop at this time; it will remain available until the Shop recycles, so don't wait too long to get it if you want it. If you do miss it, however, it's likely to reappear again at a future time.

The emote costs 500 V-Bucks, which is the equivalent of $5. Because the first season of the game's Chapter 2 has been dragging on for four months, it's unlikely you have any free Battle Pass V-Bucks left; that'll change in coming days, though, when Epic finally releases Fortnite Chapter 2, Season 2, with what players hope will be big changes to make up for the long wait time.

It's unclear what Epic plans to add in the second season, but it is possible that some past leaks will prove true. At this point, the two biggest leaks indicate that Epic will add a new physics element that enables buildings to crumble when struck with weapons. As well, players are anticipating a big flood event, though Epic hasn't commented on the speculation.
