Facebook's New Career Site Has Free Lessons For The Modern Workforce
Facebook has launched a new career development site called Learn with Facebook that provides users with skills relevant to the modern workforce, as well as advice from experts. Lessons are offered under various topics, such as digital marketing and progressing in one's career. This follows a pledge Facebook made earlier this year to train one million US business owners, among other things.
The new learning portal has been launched in partnership with Goodwill Community Foundation, which Facebook says it will work closely with on developing training resources. This is different than the company's existing Jobs on Facebook product, which helps jobseekers find a new job.
Learn with Facebook is designed with an interface similar to Coursera and other online learning portals, though the content is slimmer. There's a "Discover social media marketing" course, for example, that is 11 minutes long and covers basic info including the benefits of online marketing and the value of social media.
There are only four courses listed at this time, including both "get started" and "go further" courses for digital marketing, and "getting hired" and "excel at work" for career courses. The first two each have four lessons, and the second two have two and four lessons, respectively.
In addition, Facebook is updating its Mentorship tool to make it easier for Groups users to find a mentor who matches their interests and goals. With that tool, users are able to state what they're looking for and mentors are able to state what they're offering.
