Facebook Orders Sacred Lies 10-Episode Drama Based On Grimm Story
Facebook just ordered ten episodes in a series tentatively called Sacred Lies. This show is based on a Grimm Brothers story called "The Handless Maiden" and "The Sacred Lies of Minnow Bly" novel by Stephanie Oakes. Blumhouse Television will be part of the production, as well the director of and an executive producer from the show True Blood.
Facebook Director of Development Ricky Van Veen announced the news at NATPE, according to Deadline, which reports that True Blood executive producer Raelle Tucker will be Sacred Lie's executive producer and showrunner.
Meanwhile, True Blood director Scott Winant has been tapped to direct the first two episodes of Sacred Lies. The show's name may be changed from Sacred Lies by the time it launches; the series is described as a drama composed of 30-minute episodes.
Facebook ordered 10 episodes for its Facebook Watch service, but when the show will premiere isn't clear. The show will revolve around an unusual main character: a girl who doesn't have any hands. Talking about the series' storyline is Tucker, who explained:
This a young female protagonist we've never seen on screen before. She's complex, brave, funny...and sometimes dangerous. And she has no hands. But she refuses to let that, or her bizarre, brutal past define her or limit her. That's the message of our series: no matter what life throws at you – ultimately only you have the power to decide what you believe and what you become. I'm beyond excited and honored to bring this unique, inspiring, badass character to life.
