Enlight for iPhone takes on the biggest photo editing apps

Most of your photos are probably taken with your smartphone, and so it isn't surprising that most of your photo editing is probably likewise done on your phone. For that reason, the number of sophisticated image editors for mobile devices has grown slowly but steadily over the years, and mobile photographs now have a number of options that extend far beyond Instagram filters. Still, using the higher-end apps can also be confusing, driving many to their laptops where menus are larger and more easily arranged. A new app for iOS in particular has managed to solve that problem, however, without sacrificing features.

It's called Enlight, and for the time being it is only available for the iPhone (though, in the future, an Android and iPad version will also be offered). Enlight takes on Adobe's mobile Photoshop and Lightroom apps by offering professional-level features (masking and gradients, brushes and layers, etc) in a deceptively simplistic and clean interface.

This app is made by the same people who made Facetune, the selfie app, and it is now available through the App Store for a few dollars. With it, mobile photographers have options that include lossless image saving and more common ones like content sharing.

A single menu lies across the bottom of the app, which will be familiar with most mobile photographers — it is a design reminiscent of Instagram's own UI, and many other apps like it. Many more features lie hidden in its nestled menus, however, and they have a lot more potential.
