Dell drops 27-inch U2711 LCD with 2560 x 1440 resolution

One of the best things that I ever added to my gaming PC was the first generation 30-inch LCD from Dell. The 2560 x 1600 resolution makes for some fantastic gaming, assuming you have the video card muscle to drive that resolution. Dell has offered up a new LCD that is slightly smaller than my 30-inch screen called the U2711.

The U2711 is a 27-inch LCD with a resolution of 2560 x 1440. The aspect ratio of the screen is 16:9 and it has a maximum dynamic contrast ratio of 80,000:1. The screen is backlit by CCFL rather than LEDs, which is about the only tech the U2711 is missing. Dell offers Custom Color Modes to allow the screen to cover a wide color gamut making it suitable for design pros and gamers.

The base of the screen is height adjustable and the switches and controls use capacitive touch technology. Connectivity includes HDMI 1.3, DisplayPort, and DVI-D with HDCP. A four-port USB hub is built-in for connecting gear. The screen isn't cheap at $1,099 and it is set to ship on February 26.
