Classic 1979 'Alien' movie returns to theaters in October

Classic science fiction horror hit Alien will return to theaters for a limited time in October, it has been announced. The movie was originally released in 1979, earning critical praise and establishing a new universe featured in several additional movies and dramatic audiobooks. The movie will only be in theaters for three days, unfortunately, so fans will have to act fast to get tickets.Alien was released in 1979, introducing the world to Ridley Scott's science fiction world, the starship Nostromo, and a terrifying organism that decimates its human crew. The film was directed by Ridley Scott with Sigourney Weaver in the starring role as Ellen Ripley, ultimately earning both critical and viewer praise.

The movie spurred the release of several other movies in the series, including Aliens in 1986 and Alien 3 in 1992. Less popular, though no less valid, is 1997's Alien Resurrection, after which the franchise sat mostly dormat (Alien vs. Predator aside for a moment) until 2012's Prometheus and 2017's Alien: Convenant.

The official 40th anniversary of the first Alien movie happened back in May, but it apparently took a few months to get a theatrical re-release in the pipeline. Turner Classic Movies Big Screen Classics is presenting the limited theatrical run, which will take place on October 13, October 15, and October 16.

Tickets are being sold through Fathom Events, which offers precious few details on the upcoming release. It's unclear whether the remastered 4K version of the movie will be screened, though it's reasonable to assume that will be the case. Showtimes on these three days are limited, but tickets are offered at their usual prices.
