China's iPhone 6 and 6 Plus reservations hit 2 million

Apple gear is extremely popular in many parts of the world, including China. Some news outlets in China are reporting some very impressive numbers for reservations in the country for the latest iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus smartphones from Apple.

The 2 million reservation number is tipped to include reserved devices from retailers and the three mobile carriers in the country, but not from Apple itself. The report comes from Chinese news organizations ITHome and Sina with the numbers described as "incomplete statistics."

The 2 million reservation mark was reached after only six hours of the devices being available for reservation. Reports indicate that most of the devices reserved have been the 64GB iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus models selling for almost $1000.

The smaller and cheaper devices haven't been the most popular so far. China has a robust black market for Apple hardware and earlier reports indicated that black market buyers were paying a premium for the larger iPhone 6 models and for the gold finish versions. Apple will begin taking pre-orders for the new smartphone models on October 10 and it will also buyers to reserve iPhone 6 and 6 Plus devices on October 14 for in-store pickup on October 17.
