If you thought the revelation of The Vision would be the last we’d see of teasers for Avengers: Age of Ultron, better think again. We still have a week or two (depending on where you live) so there’s still plenty of room for teasers and potential spoilers. While this latest snippet isn’t exactly an official trailer, it was shown in public at the recent MTV Music Awards for everyone to gawk at and chew on. It does contain potential spoilers about the until now unexplained confrontation between Hulk and Iron Man’s Hulkbuster Armor, so be warned.
Given the Hulk is as stable as an egg balancing on top of a pyramid, it is perhaps no surprise that he would go about smashing even his own teammates. But even in his rage, the green giant never does anything without reason and it has been the subject of much Internet debate on what or who has caused the Hulk to go postal on Iron Man. Apparently, it’s not the green darling’s fault after all.
Trying to appeal to the scientist within, to no effect whatsoever, Tony Stark lets it slip that the Hulk is under some mind control. He speaks of the “little witch” that is messing with his mind and tries to talk the Hulk out of it. As the rest of clip shows, it doesn’t work.
And so the events of this battle pretty much revolve around the Scarlet Witch (presuming Stark wasn’t using “witch” as a euphemism for some other type of female) and her modified powers. It has been speculated that Wanda’s reality-bending abilities in the comics are manifested in some sort of mind reading and control talent. Given Marve Studios can’t really touch the subject of mutants, it’s not unexpected to see the films take a different spin on these “mutants” (hints at even broader MCU changes up ahead).
Of course, now the question becomes why would Wanda, one of the earliest Avengers in the comic book timeline, be pitting Avenger against Avenger. Just one of the mysteries to be solved once Age of Ultron hits the big screen in a few days.
