ASUS EeeBook X205 Windows Laptop Now Available

Back in September we got our first look at ASUS's sleek budget-friendly EeeBook X205, a thin laptop running Windows 8.1 and offering users a so-called smartphone experience. Though we got all the details on the machine a couple months ago, ASUS was quiet on when it would launch the notebook, something that is no longer of any concern: the laptop is now available, and is priced at $199 USD. The device is poised to take on HP's recent similar offering, the equally budget-friendly Stream 11 notebook.

The EeeBook X205 features an 11.6-inch display with a common 1366 x 768 resolution, as well as Intel HD Graphics and a Bay Trail-T quad-core Z3735 1.33GHz processor. There's 2GB of RAM and 32GB of storage, the latter of which is arguably the machine's biggest downside. That isn't of terrible concern, however, due to the inclusion of an SD card slot.

The webcam is VGA resolution, and there's Bluetooth 4.0, as well as a pair of USB 2.0 ports and a single micro HDMI port. Audio comes via SonicMaster and integrated speakers, and power comes via the 38Whrs polymer battery. The specifications are in many ways identical to the HP Stream 11.

ASUS has paid quite a bit of attention to the EeeBook X205's design, calling it a "value notebook with a premium feel". The weight in particular is hailed as one of its shining points, coming in at .98kg and being notably lighter than many competing products. The laptop is available now through Amazon and similar retailers.
