Apex Legends season 2 weapon changes detailed

Apex Legends season 2 is on the horizon, but before it arrives, Respawn has detailed some of the changes to weapons it'll be making once the new season goes live. In addition to tweaks to existing weapons, Respawn will also be introducing the L-Star, which it first announced at E3 2019 last week. The developer delivered a new trailer today to show us the L-Star in action.

The L-Star is a high-powered LMG that fires experimental plasma projectiles. Those projectiles travel slowly, so while you'll need to lead long-distance targets more, their large size means that you don't necessarily need to be as accurate. It's only found in airdrops, so it'll be a rarity on the battlefield, and firing it for too long will cause it to overheat, so that's something to keep in mind as you mow down enemies.

On top of the L-Star, Respawn will also be introducing some new hop-ups in season 2. The first is the Disruptor Rounds hop-up, which attaches to the Alternator and RE-45 to increase their damage to shields. Conversely, there's also the Hammerpoint Rounds hop-up for the P2020 and the Mozambique, which will increase unshielded damage.

We'll also see a new Energy Mags attachment for the Havoc, Devotion, and Triple Take that increases ammo capacity at all levels and reduces reload time at level 2 and above. Ammo stack sizes have been tweaked for some weapons, notably for shotguns, which now have a max stack size of only 16. Currently, that stack size is 60, so you'll be carrying a lot less shotgun ammo after diving into season 2.

The Kraber, Flatline, P2020, Alternator, and Triple Take will all get buffs in season 2 as well, with specifics coming along in season 2's patch notes. Arc Stars in particular are in for a mixed bag of changes, with ignition time slightly increased and damage to shielded players on the edge of explosions decreased. On the other side of that coin, though, Arc Stars will now down unshielded, full health players who are stuck with them, so there's a little bit of a balancing act going on with these thrown weapons.

More details about what's in store for weapons will arrive with season 2's first round of patch notes, which will be dropping on July 2nd. We'll keep an eye out for more details in the meantime, but for now, you can learn more about what Respawn is plotting over on the Apex Legends subreddit.
