Apex is a futuristic machined aluminum wallet

Once mobile payments become common place and retailers get on board with solely digital rewards cards, the need to carry around a physical wallet will disappear into the realm of all things archaic and hipster. Until then, you likely still find it necessary to carry a wallet, and that wallet is probably average in every way. Such doesn't have to be the case, however; all sorts of wallets exist, and counted among them is new Kickstarter entrant Apex, a machine aluminum wallet with RFID protection.

The Apex wallet is designed to be minimalist in nature, having the dimensions of a credit card and width that is wide enough to accommodate several cards — it is about the same width as an iPhone 5s, the makers say. There's a machined slot in the middle in which one can push out a card using their thumb, swipe the card at a terminal, then pull the card back in.

One side is metal and the other side is elastic, allowing folded bills to be tucked in place behind the cards. The anodized wallet will be available in Gold, Black, and Silver colors, and is offered in both horizontal and vertical design orientations.

Apex is the newest device from Mstrmnd Collective, which is looking to fund the project via Kickstarter. $4,000 was the goal, and it blasted past that in short order, currently sitting at $111,685 USD with less than one day remaining. If you're looking to score the early bird unit, you'll need to squeak in a pledge of $22 before the campaign ends. Shipping starts in April.
