Amazon Echo Multiroom Audio Tipped To Launch Soon
Amazon is preparing to launch multiroom audio support for its Amazon Echo devices, sources have claimed, enabling users to play music in more than one room at once. The multiroom audio feature recently finished internal testing, per the sources, indicating it will be arriving on Echo in the relatively near future. Alexa will be able to respond to commands made to any one of the multi-unit speaker groups, too.Amazon Echo Show Review: Alexa's screen shows promise
The information comes from German publication Caschys Blog, which says it was alerted to the new features by unnamed sources. The big tipped feature is that multiple Echo devices will be able to operate as a multi-room speaker setup, enabling device owners to treat all the Echo devices in their home as if they were individual connected speakers.
In addition, users will be able to issue commands to any of these Echo devices and have them all respond as necessary. The example given by the source is that all of the Echo devices located on a single floor could respond to the same command issued to only one device, saving time and perhaps better positioning the devices for smart home functionality.
The feature has already undergone testing by Amazon, according to the report, and is therefore completed. The source claims that Amazon could push out the feature to its Echo devices at any time, though the company hasn't confirmed the feature and there's no stated plans for pushing out that mythical update. The feature will, however, keep Amazon's product competitive with competitor Google Home, which already has the functionality.
