Windows Phone hinted to be getting native Microsoft Office app

Poor Windows Phone users always among the last to get flagship apps for their device, if at all, and that has become even more apparent recently with Microsoft offering the best mobile Office experience on rival iOS and Android devices. Hopefully that will changing soon as Microsoft is expected to reveal more details about its upcoming Windows 10 operating system, and if a recent post from exec Joe Belfiore is to be believed, we'll also be seeing completely revamped Office apps for Windows Phone, equal to those on other platforms.

Belfiore, Microsoft's corporate VP for its Operating Systems Group, recently acknowledged on the Chinese social network Weibo that he understood Windows Phone users' disappointment in being left out of the loop.

First ... as we end our 2014, I want to acknowledge the comments and letter you all have sent, noting that you've been frustrated seeing Microsoft launch applications like Office on iOS and Android, without accompanying news around what will happen on Windows Phone. I want to assure you that our Office team has not forgotten Windows Phone – we're just aligning all of our news and announcements to a single event.

He added that despite iOS and Android receiving new Office apps recently, Windows Phone had not been forgotten, and that Microsoft would be making an announcement before Chinese New Year.

Chinese New Year takes place on February 19th this year, and Microsoft's Windows 10 event is already scheduled for January 21st, making it likely there will be Office for Windows Phone news in as little as just over two weeks from now. A Chinese social site seems a bit of an odd place for Belfiore to be dropping such hints, but later in his post he stressed that the Chinese market was a specific target for the Office team, and that new features were coming with them in mind.
