Sprint admit to accidentally tripling HTC EVO 4G sales figures

Looks like someone at Sprint needs to re-oil their abacus, as the carrier has admitted to "accidentally" over-estimating their launch day sales figures for the HTC EVO 4G.  Sprint originally claimed to have sold "three times the number of Samsung Instinct and Palm Pre devices sold over their first three days on the market combined"; now, they're saying EVO 4G sales were "in line with the number of Samsung Instinct and Palm Pre devices sold over their first three days on the market combined."

That's still impressive – and we still have a soft spot for the Sprint EVO 4G – but it's certainly a lot less impressive than originally expected.  It's unclear what caused the error in calculations on Sprint's end, though the most obvious explanation is that whoever drafted the press release got overwhelmed by the numbers and simply made a mistake.

As for EVO 4G sales, Sprint reckons they continue to outpace those of the Instinct and the Pre.  In fact, you may have trouble finding one in stock; there are multiple reports of the EVO 4G being difficult to find in retail stores.
